WoF Recap: October 21, 2019

This theme week has had problems in seasons past. In Seasons 29 and 33, we had a SKUNKING. And in the last two seasons, we had a $100K loss. Here’s hoping we don’t get either of those in this season’s edition.

INSTANT DUD: S (John)

Mystery/Crossword Round: ________ DANCE

Our early leader Faye quickly BANKRUPTs next to $650. Second, Pam calls up two T’s and turns down the $2K buyout for what’s under the MW near LaT…nothing. John makes it three BANKRUPTS in a row w/ the MDW’s right side. Faye tries again w/ a $500 P, two A’s and E’s, an S for that MDW, but then H for hush. Pam follows w/ a $1,200 L pair, a $700 B, a $3,500 Y and a $550 R. Grid…

  • B E L L Y
  •           A       T
  •           S _ _ A R E
  •           T       P

She spins once more…but she and John BOMB OUT back-to-back thinking the last remaining consonant is D or C, respectively — just doesn’t make any sense at all, you two! -__- That allows Faye to complete the grid fair and SQUARE.

BANKRUPTS: 3 (whole panel)

Pam: $1K/John: $2K/Faye: $15,500 cash & HI MDW

Christy Collier: administrative assistant for an engineering firm married to Robert with two kids (they’re all in the audience) from Nashville

Cari mistakenly blurted out the answer of SCHOOL LIBRARY without buzzing in, but she did so afterwards and said the answer again for control of that big circle.

FEATURED PRIZE: sponsored by the movie “Surf’s Up”, a trip to the Surfers Paradise Marriott Resort on Australia’s Gold Coast worth $8,050

She started w/ a $900 T, an S for the Australia trip, two E’s, a $600 R pair, A, but then L for loss of turn. Second, Bob calls up an $800 N pair, I, a $400 B, and a $550 P…

P R _ T E I N / &
S N _ _ _ E

but he blanked out after saying the first word. Christy next LaTed out while Cari said C for crud, so we’re quickly back to that man. He bought three O’s and lit up a $600 Z to complete the board…

Jackpot Round: PHRASE (PRIZE PUZZLE)

Cari thirdly tried a $1,200 H pair, two W’s for the RICARDO luggage, three I’s, but then repeated the E. On Bob’s second turn, he cleaned out the vowels w/ A and two O’s, but then said S for sorry. Christy tried again w/ an $800 L pair, a $600 D duo, an $800 G, a $2,700 R trio, but then P for phooey. Cari followed w/ a $1,200 M trio and an $800 C…

…but she decided to go again…and she got the other BANKRUPT to lose $3,700 cash & luggage. Not very well played. Bob ended things by solving for $150 and would be going to a place that’s BRIMMING WITH OLD-WORLD CHARMPRAGUE from Collette Vacations w/ OneTravel.com airfare worth $5,800.

Mystery Round: FOOD & DRINK

Christy first took the $3K buyout for three T’s via the MW next to $300 (good call, that was BANKRUPT). But LaT stopped her just as quick. Second in line, Cari filled in a $600 S pair, four A’s, a $300 R, two E’s, four N’s for the WC, and four I’s, followed by a $550 C, an $800 M (almost got that LaT), the last vowel of two O’s and a D on the other MW before she gambled $1,250…$$$, but the BANKRUPT near $600 forced her to give up $11,250 along w/ her WC. Bob followed w/ a $3K L trio via the unflipped MW, but that same BANKRUPT struck again. Christy won’t take any chances…
