Round 1: PHRASE

They first call a $900 L, but lose it right back to the BANKRUPT near TD. Second, the Iversons call up a $700 S, a $600 R, two E’s and A’s, but then a dud of V (they fell for the ALIVE trap). Third, the McCoys get the Turks & Caicos trio, but a dud O buy stops them. The Herders waste a FP usage w/ the A, uncover a $1,300 T pair, and run into the other normal BANKRUPT. The Iversons follow w/ a $1,600 pair of N’s, but then the BANKRUPT near TD to forfeit $2,400…

_ R E A T / M _ N _ S
T _ _ N _ / A L _ _ E

Nikki then says GREAT MINDS THINK ALIKE for $8,250 cash & trip.

DUDS: V (Iversons), O (McCoys)
WASTED FP USAGE: Herders
BANKRUPTS: 3 (Herders 2x; Iversons)

Herders: $2K/Iversons: $1K/McCoys: $8,250 cash & trip

Mystery Round: SAME NAME

The Iversons pick up the WC right away w/ a T, but strike out right away w/ R while on the MW near $650. The McCoys secondly spin up an L for the 1/2 CAR near $600, A and three E’s, a $650 B, but then the LaT. The Herders thirdly pick two $650 F’s, a $600 C, two O’s, and two $650 N’s, then we have…

_ _ N _ – _ O N _ / &
C O F F E E
T A B L E

…they solve PING-PONG & COFFEE TABLE for $2,950.

SOLE DUD: R (Iversons)
SOLE LaT: McCoys

Herders: $4,950/Iversons: $1K WC/McCoys: $8,250 cash & trip

PP/Express Round: EVENT

The McCoys flunk out right away w/ F. Second for the Herders are two $900 N’s and a G while on EXPRESS. They’re going aboard…

Next Choices: two T’s…two A’s…C for CRASH (they lose $4,550, and that’s their third BANKRUPT tonight)

The Iversons then forfeit their WC to the MDW’s left side. After the McCoys BANKRUPT near $650, the Herders fill in three $550 S’s, an E, and an L for the same 1/2 CAR, but there’s no more consonants…

S A _ L _ N G
A T / S _ N S E T

…and they’ll be SAILING AT SUNSET at the Sandals Ochi Beach in JAMAICA.

SOLE NON-BANKRUPT DUD: G (McCoys)
BANKRUPTS: 3 (all teams)

Herders: $12,850 cash & Jamaica/Iversons: $1K/McCoys: $8,250 cash & T and C

Melissa quickly IDs OSCAR THE GROUCH.

Speed-Up: PEOPLE

$1,500 per consonant here. Late in this round, Steve says the two S’s but he blows the $7,500 solve w/ TEENS AND TITANS. A dud of L and a W to finish off the consonants…

A N D / T W _ _ N S

…the McCoys solve TEENS AND TWEENS for $3K more.

DUDS: R (Iversons), Y (McCoys), L (Iversons)
SOLE DQ: Herders’ blown solve

FINAL SCORES
Herders: $15,850 cash & Jamaica/Iversons: $2K/McCoys: $11,250 cash & T and C

GT: $29,100
BANKRUPT TRASH (excl. WC): $9,150

$100K Bonus Round
Will the ‘ be any good for the Herders?

Category: PHRASE
This six-word answer (yes, you read that right) begins remarkably like this…

_ N / _ _ R / _ _ _
T _ / T _ E / _ _ _

The last word’s the decider. FHCI…

_ N / _ _ R / _ _ _
T _ / T H E / _ _ _

…triggers a TECHNICAL WIPEOUT for the second week in a row, and they get the last word wrong w/ BAY (they also miss w/ ON OUR WAY FOR THE DAY). The $33K answer was ON OUR WAY TO THE GYM.

Yet another average episode, with some quick solves. And TU1 was quite the spoiler.

Speaking of the number of words in the BR, there was that seven-word puzzle on New Year’s Day (I GOT A KICK OUT OF IT).

Is it just me or we getting way too many repeated letter calls on Free Play these days? All it does is show how broken the wedge is. You shouldn’t be rewarded for not paying attention.
