WoF Recap: December 9, 2015

$1K Tossup: PHRASE

S _ _ P R _ S _
_ U _ P R _ S E

SURPRISE, SURPRISETiffany’s got some money under her belt. The next three Secret Santas are as follows…

Tiffany Brownlee: Belle Chasse Academy 7th Grade teacher’s assistant currently writing a novel from Belle Chasse, LA
Amy Pawlukiewicz: editor/web designer & animal shelter volunteer from L.A. (orig. from Bay Village, OH)
Josh Osborn: solar salesman from Scottsdale, AZ
$2K Tossup: PLACE

A N _ _ A L
S _ _ C T _ _ _ Y

Amy fittingly solves ANIMAL SANCTUARY.

Her first moves are two T’s for $1,400, an E, but then the LaT. Second, Josh picks up that WC w/ an N, but he gets DQed for repeating the E (he meant to say A). Third, Tiffany takes four R’s for $2,200, three A’s, but then the LaT. Amy next picks a $900 S, but the sole dud vowel of I stops her. After Josh’s bad M call while on the sears gift tag, Tiffany uncovers the SL bonus of four $700 C’s and buys four O’s (she nearly repeated the A)…

C O _ O R _ _ _
C _ A R A C T E R S

…she solves COLORFUL CARTOON CHARACTERS for $5,500.

DUDS: I (Amy), M (Josh)
LaTs: 2 (women)
SOLE DQ: Josh’s E repeat

Amy: $2K/Josh: WC/Tiffany: $6,500

Mystery Round: WAYD?

Josh gets the obvious out of the way first — two N’s for the gift tag, three I’s, a $600 G. But his next purchase of E is the sole baddie of this puzzle. Second, Tiffany misses w/ R. Third, Amy has the same result w/ S while on the MW near $650. Back to Josh who picks up the 1/2 CAR near the pink $600 w/ three T’s, buys three O’s, and lights up two L’s while on the other MW. He decides not to risk $3,350 cash & GT plus his plate (that’s the BANKRUPT one). But after a P for the other 1/2 CAR, he PAINFULLY BANKRUPTs NEXT TO $3,500 TO LOSE $20,815 CASH & PRIZES PLUS HIS WC — DARN. And that’s the first total 1/2 CAR loss all season long. Moving on to Tiffany who fills in a $600 F and calls a Y while on the MW near LaT…but she unfortunately flips it over. Amy then puts up a $900 C only to lose it right back to the MDW’s left side. Josh then spingles for the $650 M to leave only vowels remaining…

F L Y I N G / O N
_ _ T O M _ T I C

…he sure was FLYING ON AUTOMATIC PILOT, but he’s finally on the board.

DUDS: E (Josh), R (Tiffany), S (Amy)
BANKRUPTS: 3 (everybody)

Amy: $2K/Josh: $1K/Tiffany: $6,500

PP/Express Round: THING

Tiffany’s first takings here are three $550 T’s, four E’s, two $800 H’s, and an O, after which she says four $900 C’s, two A’s, but then N for no. Amy then FPs a pair of S’s, lights up a $600 B, and buys the remaining I, then we see…

_ I _ E C T / A C C E S S
T O / T H E / B E A C H

…another $1,350 is hers and she’ll have DIRECT ACCESS TO THE BEACH during her stay at the St. James’s Club ANTIGUA worth $7,260.

SOLE DUD: N (Tiffany)

Amy: $10,610 cash & Antigua/Josh: $1K/Tiffany: $6,500

F _ _ I L Y
K E _ P _ _ K E S

Amy gets out some FAMILY KEEPSAKES.

Speed-Up: FOOD & DRINK

That was a $1,600 FS. After that lady next to Pat puts up the frontloading P…

P _ T / _ _ / _ _ T
_ R _ _ N / T _ _

…she solves POT OF HOT GREEN TEA for $6,400 extra.

Amy: $20,010 cash & Antigua/Josh: $1K/Tiffany: $6,500

GT: $27,510
BANKRUPT TRASH (not counting WC): $22,315 cash & prizes

Josh: GH5819607 (Gary H.)/Tiffany: EL2853808 (Elesa L.)

$100K Bonus Round
After looking very closely at that FIAT 500c on the virtual set tour, I believe this is the cheap Pop version worth around $21K. Amy has landed on the P of SPIN.

Category: PHRASE
RSTLNE gives us…

_ _ E _ _ / _ _
T _ E / _ _ _ _

FPDA is a very good combination because we now have…

A _ E A D / _ F
T _ E / P A _ _

…she’s indeed AHEAD OF THE PACK late in this game and right here, so she leaves w/ $53,010 cash & trip.

SPIN ID: HH0206748 (Heather H.)
