What the Wheel Looks Like for Next Season

Sources say that there are a few downgrades on the big wheel for next season. Here’s the Before…

$2,500/$3,500/$5K
$500
$900
$700/EXPRESS
$600
$800/MW
$500
$700
$500/MDW
$600
$550
$500
$900
BANKRUPT
$650
Free PLAY
$700
LOSE A TURN
$800
$500
$650
$500
$900
BANKRUPT

…and here’s the AFTER part (with the parts that are in large text).

$2,500/$3,500/$5K
$500
$600
$700/EXPRESS
$600
$650/MW
$500

LOSE A TURN
$800
$500
$650
$500
$900
BANKRUPT

As you can see, there are now FOUR $600 spaces and only ONE $900 space and one $800 space. IMO, that cluster of 6s w/ the Express wedge nearby just seems awkward. A yellow $800 would’ve been better and they should’ve have kept the pink $900.

Also, the 1/2 CARs will NO LONGER be in R1. Looks like they’re making them a little harder to win after that record number of them given away this past season.

Andy, the yellow $600 was just reverted to $900. Credit to Buy a Vowel Boards.

And I'm 99.99% sure Michael Taylor will declare a technical car win every time someone lands on a green $500 space in Round 1 and then half car tag in a future round. Sigh.

Wow, I didn't know that. Looks like they had their taping this past Friday and they felt it was weird. Thanks JP.

I'm glad they reverted back to the yellow $900. To go from 3 $900s to 1 is ridiculous.

I'm more interested in the bonus round. I really wish they didn't get rid of $35k last season. Contestants generally expect the minimum, so even if $32k somehow worked out to more money won, it led to weaker reactions overall and far less excitement for viewers. $40k was so rare that I thought it was taken out until I saw a late season game where someone won it. $45k was landed on four more times last season than $40k, and while I have no proof, it feels like there are the same number of $40k spaces as $45k… maybe like two.

Personally I think the best solution to this is to simply make $40k and $45k more popular. Two $50k wedges, 1 $100k wedge (obviously), and maybe two more car wedges to offset fewer 1/2 round cars would be nice. I doubt they will do this, of course, because they're cutting back to save money, but I really, really hate what they did with $32k and soon $33k. I suppose it will just get better in time?

I think what they really should have done to save money, if possible, was to just cut back on the values of prize puzzles that got crazy high. For example, Melanie Barash's prize puzzle from 03/12/15 was worth $9,400 when the spa trip on the Wheel was $8,058!

Contestants are happy with going anywhere, even if the trip is around $5,000… so why not give out cheaper trips? It would also help balance the abundant games where the winner was whoever solved the Prize Puzzle, even if they did not do well for the rest of the game. Think about it like this: if they slashed $1,000 off every trip worth $6k or more, and if (using random stats, too lazy to look it up) 80% of trips were $6k or more, they could save about $150k right there. All the wheel altering will really do is make it harder to overcome someone who solves the prize puzzle.

Either way, I'm sure it won't feel much different to us watching, but I hope they save enough so they can do even better next year. Maybe if we have a season like S31, they'll be fine… *shudder*

Not quite. Another source confirmed the yellow $900 will be $600 in Rounds 1, 2 and 4+. Another haphazardly BS budget cut.
