FEATURED TRIP: istanbul.BUZZ worth $7,625

Round 1: SONG LYRICS

Off she goes w/ three $550 T’s, two $800 N’s, four O’s, two $700 D’s, but then a bad purchase in I. Second, Erika calls a dud consonant of R. Third, Dave puts in three S’s for $2,100

D O N ‘ T / S T A N D
S O / _ _ O S _ / T O / _ _

…and solves The Police’s 1980 hit “DON’T STAND SO CLOSE TO ME” to keep that amount.

DUDS: I (Michelle), R (Erika)

Erika: $1K/Dave: $2,100/Michelle: $2K

Mystery Round: WAYD?

Erika first takes three N’s while on the MW near $800 and says she came here to play, so she’s gambling…and it’s the $$$! Her next calls are a $600 G, the three good vowels of three I’s, two A’s and three FP E’s, two M’s for that Istanbul trip, a K for the WC, but then a CRITICAL DUD of D while on the TravelSmith gift tag to likely squander $19,225 cash & trip — oh boy. Dave then gets the GT w/ two S’s, and two T’s to double up the grand he got on the last spin…

M A K I N G / A / _ I S E
I N _ E S T M E N T

…he’s MAKING A WISE INVESTMENT for $3K cash & GT.

SOLE DUD: D (Erika)

Erika: $1K/Dave: $5,100 cash & GT/Michelle: $2K

PP/Express Round: PLACES

That man is off to a quick $7K start w/ two S’s, then he buys an E and five A’s before losing a turn w/ R while on the 1/2 CAR near the orange $900.  Second, Michelle wastes a spin w/ the MDW’s right side. Third for Erika are a $600 L, an O and three O’s, a $650 B, four $650 N’s, and the last vowel of U, then come three $900 C’s, a $500 T, and two M’s while on the other 1/2 CAR. Board…

C A B A N A S
_ I _ _ E N / A M O N _
C O C O N U T / _ A L M S

…she’s won another $7,300 and the chance to see some CABANAS HIDDEN AMONG COCONUT PALMS at Ramon’s Village in BELIZE.

SOLE DUD: R (Dave)
SOLE INSTA-BANKRUPT: Michelle

Erika: $14,300 cash & Belize WC/Dave: $5,100 cash & GT/Michelle: $2K

$3K Tossup: FOOD & DRINK

W _ _ _ O N
S O _ P

Dave eats up some WONTON SOUP; I wonder why they didn’t use this for Fabulous Food week?

Speed-Up Round: PHRASE

The consonants are gonna be worth $1,900 apiece.

Dave: T
Michelle: 2 H’s
Erika: 2 S
Dave: L
Michelle: W
Erika: P (DUD)
Dave: N
Michelle: R
Erika: F (DUD)
Dave: C

W H _ N / T H _
S _ _ _ _ / C L _ _ R S

WHEN THE SMOKE CLEARS, Dave, who messed up at first w/ WHEN THE SKIES CLEARS, has won $7,600 and the victory.

DUDS (both by Erika): P and F

FINAL SCORES
Erika: $14,300 cash & Belize/Dave: $15,700 cash & GT/Michelle: $2K

GT: $32K
ZERO BANKRUPT TRASH!

$100K Bonus Round

Allison the wife, their daughter (Montana?), and his in-law parents (Sharon and Thomas) are here. Will that W envelope mean a win for Dave?

Category: EVENT
This was similar to a puzzle at the end of the 2007 NYC road trip and it wasn’t solved for $30K…

_ _ _ _ N _
_ / _ _ _ S E

Guess what he gets from his combo of GCMA…

_ _ _ _ N G
A / _ _ _ S E

just the obvious and he doesn’t come close to winning the $32K towards BUYING A HOUSE. Not very well played by him.

$5K SPIN ID: TH2796530

I expected that BR to be shoehorned into WAYD?, what with the -ING suffix.

It actually sounds like more of an EVENT than WAYD? Otherwise…bye bye perfecto. If only Erika didn't make that critical R2 mistake.

A good comeback between Erika and Dave but the BR really had been useful had he went BGHO and with that, WATW’s PBRW bid goes Sayonara.

WONTON SOUP use in the tossup is actually appropriate since that WATW is themed on world travelling (WONTON is actually an Asian dish), it does not matter if that is the Fabulous Food week or America’s Game.
