WOF Retro Recap: May 10, 2012

$1K Tossup: WAYD?

R I D I _ _ / I N / T _ E
B I K E / _ A N _

Carrie’s off by one letter w/ RIDING IN THE BIKE LAND.

R I D I N _ / I N / T _ E
B I K E / _ A N _

Jamie’s rightly RIDING IN THE BIKE LANE, so let’s talk to her first…

Jamie Oelrich: graphic designer at a local sporting apparel company whose friend Joscelyn appeared on the show in Vegas about six years ago whereas her grandmother Sharon apparently appeared on Chuck Woolery’s version from Portland
Carrie Thoreson: Astoria High School Special Education worker from Astoria, OR
Dane Artman, Jr.: chocolatier from Portland

$2K Tossup: PHRASE

_ _ M I L _ / _ W N _ D
& / O P E _ A T E _

Jamie knows that there are some FAMILY OWNED & OPERATED businesses to triple up.

FEATURED PRIZE: $5K HomeGoods gift card

Jackpot Round: TITLE

She starts the letter search w/ five T’s for $2,500, five E’s, and two obvious H’s for $1,800, followed by triple L’s for the WC

L _ T T L E / E _ _ _ _ E
T H _ T / _ _ _ L _

…and her $4,050 solve of “THE LITTLE ENGINE THAT COULD”.

Jamie: $7,050 WC/Others: $0 each

Mystery Round: BEFORE & AFTER

Carrie kicks off w/ a $1K pair of T’s, an E, a TD N but then H for hush while on that same big money space. Second, Dane plugs in three M’s while on the MW near LaT and takes the risk…good call! But that’s taken right back by the BANKRUPT near the invisible WC. After Jamie’s $800 Y and dud purchase of O…

T _ M M Y
T _ _ _
M E / _ N

…Carrie does a TUMMY TUCK ME IN for $4,250.

DUDS: H (Carrie), O (Jamie)

Dane: $0/Jamie: $7,050 WC/Carrie: $4,250

Dane first FPs three A’s and BANKRUPTS the same way he did late last round. Jamie secondly can’t find any T’s. Third, Carrie finds four B’s for the green 1/2 KIA, four E’s, a $7K Y pair and the leftover vowels. After an $1,100 pair of C’s, we have a rare solve attempt via FP (only the second time ever that’s happened)…

C A _ I B B E A _
_ U E E _ / B Y
B I _ _ Y / O C E A _

“CARIBBEAN QUEEN” BY BIFFY OCEAN is ABSOLUTELY WRONG. She then gets the other normal BANKRUPT to throw away $9,100 and her plate for good. Dane then capitalizes w/ “CARIBBEAN QUEEN” BY BILLY OCEAN for a $6,100 Hotwire trip Hotwire.com trip to the Divi Flamingo Beach Resort & Casino in BONAIRE worth $6,100.

SOLE DUD: T (Jamie)
SOLE DQ: Carrie’s blown solve

Dane: $6,100 Caribbean trip/Jamie: $7,050 WC/Carrie: $4,250

$3K Tossup: PLACE

_ P _ R T _ E N T
C O _ P L E X

Jamie gets APARTMENT COMPLEX to move into five-figure territory.

Round 4: THINGS (full $1,500 speed-up round)

After Dane makes the questionable call of two O’s…

C _ T T _ N _ – _ _ _ _
T  _ C _ N O _ O _ _

…he solves CUTTING-EDGE TECHNOLOGY for the minimum instead of the three G’s that would’ve made him the winner by $550.

DUDS: R (Carrie) and S (Dane)

Dane: $7,100 cash & Caribbean/Jamie: $10,050 WC/Carrie: $4,250

GT: $21,400
BANKRUPT TRASH (excluding plate): $19,100

$100K Bonus Round
Jamie’s grabbed the G envelope.

Category: THING
This is a one-wordy…

_ _ _ _ _ _ R _

CDMA and P give her…

_ _ _ _ M A R _

…this was last used on the next-to-last ep. of their Hawaii road trip (and solved for $35K)…but she won’t trade in this BOOKMARK for $30K.

That's potentially one of the worst episodes I have ever seen. The horrible solve in round 3 on the FP was a disgrace but that ridiculous male contestant who decided to screw himself by calling a vowel instead of a consonant in round 4 and then solving for a pitiful $1,000 when could have won is one of the worst moves I have seen on Wheel of Fortune. Total idiot! Seriously poor episode. I would have given this 1 of out of 10.

How sad. 😦 TBH I'm glad Jamie won the game.

For anyone who doesn't know, Dane's name is pronounced like Danny. And Joscelyn (Jamie's friend and according to Game Show NewsNet, that's how it's spelled) won $20,550 in cash on her episode (it was on 2/21/2005). Credit to GSNN.
