WOF Retro Recap: March 19, 2012

It’s another edition of “Weekend Getaways”, and this is the third full week of the season w/ the generic set.

EPISODE #5591: WEEKEND GETAWAYS

$1K Tossup: WAYD?

_ L _ _ N I _ _ / M Y
E S C _ P _

I’m not PLANNING MY ESCAPE right now, but Heidi’s on the board. Leading off the week are…

Heidi Ambrozaitis: Spanish teacher at Monty Tech HS from Fitchburg, MA (orig. from VT)
Jeff Neely: process operator for a snack cake co. from Ootlewah, TN
Asia Ahmonuel: manager of enrollment services for a health care advocacy firm who just started her job on a Monday from Burbank

$2K Tossup: PEOPLE

_ _ _ E _ O N G
_ _ _ E _ _ _

Heidi just makes it in time on the second word of LIFELONG FRIENDS, so she triples up.

FEATURED WG: JW Marriott Desert Springs Palm Desert worth $5,165

Jackpot Round: QUOTATION

She and Jeff instantly BANKRUPT next to TD. Asia’s third in line w/ two T’s for the Palm Desert trip, two R’s for the green 1/2 KIA, and three M’s for $7,500; that’s followed by two O’s and A’s, two Jackpot D’s, four E’s, a $550 H, but then a possibly fatal purchase in U (the only bad one of this puzzle) to likely deny her $14,215 cash & CA along w/ the plate. Heidi then says two S’s for the other 1/2 KIA and a $300 P, then we have…

T O / D R E A M / T H E
_ M P O S S _ _ _ E
D R E A M

…when this puzzle was last used on Oct. 6, 2008, Melissa Majchrowski (the first $100K loser of S26) blew the next-to-last word w/ INCREDIBLE w/ an O in there…but Heidi exactly recites “TO DREAM THE IMPOSSIBLE DREAM” from “Man of La Mancha” to keep the $1,300.

SOLE DUD OF THE ROUND: U (Asia)
BANKRUPTS: 2 (opposition)
UNCLAIMED JACKPOT: $9,850

Asia: $0/Heidi: $4,300 1/2 KIA/Jeff: $0

Asia: SCORELESS/Heidi: $4,300 1/2 KIA/Jeff: $1,950 WC

PP Round: THINGS

Asia’s next chance to get on the board begins w/ the same BANKRUPT everybody else got. Second, Heidi inserts four $500 R’s but nothing more w/ N. Third, Jeff puts in a $400 W, but he then gives that amount right back along w/ the WC to the the MDW’s right side; that’s his second one this episode. Asia restarts w/ two $300 T’s, an E, but then D for dud. Heidi follows suit w/ two S’s for $1,800 more, four A’s, a $300 P and twin O’s, then come two F’s for $1,600, a $300 Y, but then the FATAL PURCHASE in the sole dud vowel of I to likely lose out on at least $5,500. After another FATAL DUD of M by Jeff on TD, Asia puts in a $1,600 pair of L’s to leave the U unexposed…

A / F _ L L

Pretty slow start to the week. Had the two ladies NOT made the fatal vowel purchases, these would've been the scores between the contestants…

    Asia: $17,465
    Heidi: $16,875
    Jeff: $9,200

…and wow, Asia still would've won.

I have to ask…why do they INSIST on using the classic stage for Weekend Getaways most of the time?
