WOF Retro Recap: February 17, 2012

In the next 30 minutes, we’re going to learn if the Burkes from Wed. night saved our butts from preventing a total disaster for this week (regardless if the $100K showed up or not).

$1K Tossup: PLACE

_ O N _ _ _ O _ N
S U I _ _

Lynne & Rob solve HONEYMOON SUITE. Last to play this week…

Lynne & Rob Hines (27 yrs.): she’s a banking sales assistant while he’s a printing/shipping company manager; they’re from Henderson, NV
Job & Lauren Iles (3 yrs.): Job’s a HS Math teacher while Lauren’s a developmental therapist for a non-profit organization; they first met at a campus ministry and are from Nashville
Tim & Anne Reed: he’s an East Coast strategist while she’s a nurse for 17 yrs.; they first met in San Francisco and are from West Hartford, CT (orig. from Marina Del Rey)

$2K Tossup: PHRASE

_ / P _ _ _ _ C T
F _ T

For now, the Ileses are A PERFECT FIT together.

Jackpot Round: HUSBAND & WIFE

The middle couple waste a spin w/ the BANKRUPT near TD. Second, the Reeds pick up the trip wedge w/ T, FP an E, call up a $300 R, and buy three A’s before striking out w/ S. Third, the Hineses say two C’s for $1,600, a trio of I’s, and a $900 pair of D’s…

D A _ I D / &
_ I C T _ R I A
_ E C _ _ A _

…they solve DAVID & VICTORIA BECKHAM for another $2,250.

SOLE DUD: S (Tim & Anne)

Scores after R1
Hineses: $3,250/Ileses: $2K/Reeds: $0

Mystery Round: BEFORE & AFTER

While in the lead-off spot, the Reeds call up two T’s for $700, three E’s, a $600 H and all the other vowels; those are followed by a $900 pair of N’s, a $600 pair of S”s, and three P’s while on the MW near LaT. They take the $3K for those consonants…

_ _ A _ _ _ E
T H E / _ U E S T I O N

…and they “SNAP, CRACKLE, POP” THE QUESTION for $4,750…but it could’ve been $11,750 had they gambled.

I think this was a TECHNICAL PR, because a null cycle was edited out at the start of this rd.

Scores after R2
Hineses: $3,250/Ileses: $2K/Reeds: $4,750

The Hineses are off and running w/ a $1,200 T quarter, two E’s and A’s, a $450 H, a $7K N pairing, and the rest of the vowels…but their next spin is the MDW’s left side to let $7,400 disappear. The Ileses then pick up the WC w/ four S’s and we’re looking at…

T H E / _ E S T
S _ U _ A
I N S T _ T _ T O _ S
A _ O U N _

…but Job doesn’t remember the category as he blows the solve for the team w/ THE BEST SCUBA INSTITUTIONS AROUND (and we get a shot of him biting the WC; LOL!). That means the Reeds will meet THE BEST SCUBA INSTRUCTORS AROUND during their stay at the Sandals Grande Riviera Golf & Beach Resort in JAMAICA worth $5,910 (all those Sandals trips this week include the Island Routes adventure).

SOLE DQ: Ileses’ blown solve

Scores after R3
Hineses: $3,250/Ileses: $2K WC/Reeds: $10,660 cash & Jamaica

_ H E _ / _ _ R _ Y
M E T / _ A L _ Y

The Ileses solve “WHEN HARRY MET SALLY” to turn their $2K into $5K.

Round 4: THING (full $1,500 speed-up)

They start w/ the twin T’s…

_ _ _ _ _ _ _ / _ _ _ _ T
_ _ _ / T _ _

…but Job gives a throwaway guess w/ WHALE’S CAT AND TONGUE; that’s their second blown solve of the game. After that same team late put up the double L’s…

_ _ C _ C L _ / _ _ _ L T
_ _ R / T _ _

…he gets a BICYCLE BUILT FOR TWO w/ about a 1/2 sec. left to win the game by $340 w/ $6K.

DUDS: S (Reeds), N (Ileses), H (Reeds)
SOLE DQ: Ileses’ botched solve

Hineses: $3,250/Ileses: $11K WC/Reeds: $10,660 cash & Jamaica

GT: $24,910

$100K Bonus Round
The & is where the Ileses’ land on.

Category: PHRASE
Two letters in the top to start…

_ _ _ N _ E
_ _ _ _

They’re looking good after calling BGYO and C

B O _ N C E
B _ C _

…they BOUNCE BACK w/ their $30K win a final total of $41K.

Had it not been for the two wins this week, we would’ve set a new modern-day weekly low of $123,174 cash & prizes.

VIDEO BONUS: End of PP round onwards

I didn't really like this season's edition of Sandals Romance Week, period. And Job…what was he doing?! Hilarious Wild Card bite.

2012 Sandals Romance Week is nothing too speical, nobody $20K+ winning team, though all game is tight match.

I guess that's what happens when you get a new theme. Combining Sandals and couples' weeks probably wasn't a good idea at the time…
