WOF Retro Recap: January 11, 2012

This is one of two AG episodes taped on the “Wheel Love NY” set.

$1K Tossup: ON THE MAP

_ _ _ _ _ _ _ S
_ H _ O

Matt quickly locates COLUMBUS, OHIO. Info on him and the female opposition…

Matt Cox: systems engineer from Bowie, MD
Cassandra Baqir: I.T. analyst at a healthcare company who also has a black belt in martial arts while she and one-year husband Haydar were in South Korea from Peoria, AZ

Catalina Jacques: math teacher who’s husband of 8 yrs. (Randy) is said to be the most patient man alive from Doral, FL

$2K Tossup: SHOW BIZ

_ _ _ A T O
M A _ _ _ _

Cassandra solves POTATO MASHER.

The ally BANK bonus is back on the wheel again.

Jackpot Round: MOVIE QUOTE

Her first letters this evening are a $500 T but then R for roadblock. Second, Catalina calls up a $550 M, two E’s, but then the sole dud vowel of A. Third, Matt inserts a $400 H but then repeats the A. Returning to Cassandra who puts in a $400 D, four O’s, and F for the WC and the remaining vowels (two O’s and U’s). Coming her way next are an $800 Y but then a baddie of G. After Catalina wastes another turn by repeating the H while on the blue 1/2 KIA, Matt picks up a $2,700 trio of L’s…

I F / Y O U
_ U I L D / I T
H E / _ I L L / _ O M E

…and exactly recites “IF YOU BUILD IT, HE WILL COME” from “Field of Dreams” for $2,850.

(NOTE: A null cycle was cut out early in this round when Pat said “There’s no R, either; what’s gong on here?”.)

(AIRED) DUDS: R (Cassandra), A (Catalina), G (Cassandra)
(AIRED) DQs: 2 letter repeats (A and H by Matt & Catalina, respectively)

Scores after R1
Cassandra: $2K + WC/Catalina: $0/Matt: $3,850

Mystery Round: BEFORE & AFTER

Catalina goes first w/ two T’s for $1,100, an E and three A’s, but then the BANKRUPT next to the invisible WC to lose the $600 remainder. Second, Matt FPs three I’s and puts an H while on the MW between that and LaT. He goes for it…and the biggie’s there! Next up are a $300 R, two O’s, a $1,200 pair of L’s, and a solve attempt…

R A _ I O / _ I T _
_ _ _ I _
& / O A T E _

…he’s right w/ RADIO CITY MUSIC HALL & OATES for $11,250.

Scores after R2
Cassandra: $2K + WC/Catalina: NOTHING/Matt: $15,100

Two S’s get the man started, but next is a bad vowel buy of E. Second, Cassandra takes a $500 T and three A’s, but the MDW’s right side forces her to give up the WC and the other half of the $500. Third, Catalina makes a $600 pair of N’s appear, buys the rest of the vowel dept., and plugs in a $600 pair of D’s, but the other normal BANKRUPT gets her to the tune of $700, allowing Matt

_ A _ _ / D A _ S / A N D
_ O O _ / N I _ _ T S

…to spend some WARM DAYS AND COOL NIGHTS w/ another $750 on his trip to the Barcelo Bavaro Palace Deluxe in the DOMINICAN REPUBLIC worth $6,360.

SOLE DUD: E (Matt)
BANKRUPTS: 2 (ladies)

Scores after R3
Cassandra: $2K/Catalina: HARD LUCK/Matt: $22,210 cash & trip

$3K Tossup: PLACE

H I _ _ O _ I C
_ _ _ D M _ _ K

Matt’s right again w/ HISTORIC LANDMARK to break the $25K mark.

Round 4: WAYD?

First, he gets the obvious out of the way first — two N’s for $600, two I’s, an O, and two G’s for another $1K. His next purchase of A, however, ends his turn. Over to Cassandra who gets a $1,500 trio of S’s, but nothing else w/ L. Catalina next claims two R’s for $1,800, the leftover E, a $300 C, and a $500 M before we show her…

C R O S S I N G / M _
_ I N G E R S

…I’m CROSSING MY FINGERS that she finally has a solve under her belt…and she does w/ $2,350.

DUDS: A (Matt), L (Cassandra)

Scores after R4
Cassandra: $2K/Catalina: $2,350/Matt: $25,210 cash & trip

Round 5: EVENT (full $1,300 speed-up)

After a D gets put up by Cassandra

G R _ N D
_ _ _ N _ N G

…she solves GRAND OPENING for the FS amount.

DUDS: T (Cassandra), S (Matt), L (Cassandra)

Cassandra: $3,300/Catalina: $2,350/Matt: $25,210 cash & trip

GT: $30,860
(AIRED) BANKRUPT TRASH (excluding WC): $1,550

$100K Bonus Round
The E in GAME is where he stops on.

Category: EVENT
RSTLNE, do your stuff…

_ L _ _ _ – T _ E
_ _ _ _ _ R

Looks like he knows it already after calling BFCA…

B L A C _ – T _ E
A F F A _ R

he sure does, and hopefully he’ll be going to a BLACK-TIE AFFAIR w/ something other than that pesky $30K…

not at all — he’ll have to settle for a final grand total of $55,210.

Looks like Ally Bank was a major sponsor of season 29.
