WOF Retro Recap: December 6, 2011

Our next stop’s the set of “Spa Fantasy”.

$1K Tossup: PHRASE

_ _ / A _ E _ _ C _ N
O _ _ _ _ N _ L

Kendra says that the show is AN AMERICAN ORIGINAL. From left to right, here are…

Kendra Hauser: Gardner-Webb University graduate who’s currently a deputy clerk from Winston-Salem, NC
Colin Boyd: engineer from San Diego
Ashley Stevenson: Deerfield HS math teacher from Lake in the Hills, IL

$2K Tossup: FOOD & DRINK

G _ O _ _ I A
_ E A _ _

Kendra picks off a GEORGIA PEACH to triple up.

FEATURED TRIP: Westin Diplomat Resort & Spa in FL worth $5,360

Jackpot Round: SONG LYRICS

Kendra just misses the good part of the MDW and gets its left-side BANKRUPT instead. Second, Colin puts up three T’s for $1,200, buys three A’s, calls up an $1,800 pair of S’s, and picks up the WC w/ two H’s. After buys of an O and two E’s, he gets a $900 trio of R’s, a $450 W and an I to finish off the vowels…

T H A T ‘ S
W H A T / _ R I E _ _ S
A R E / _ O R

…he solves Dionne Warwick’s “THAT’S WHAT FRIENDS ARE FOR” for $3,350.

Scores after R1
Kendra: $3K/Colin: $3,350 + WC/Ashley: $0

Our early leader begins w/ a $1K pair of T’s, buys of an E and two A’s, double S’s for the blue 1/2 KIA, and the FPing of two O’s, followed by the other vowels (two I’s and a U) and an unfortunate dud of D while on TD. Ashley secondly claims a $2,700 trio of R’s, FPs an N, and picks up the other 1/2 KIA w/ two L’s, but she then gives the plate right back along w/ $4,200 to the same MDW BANKRUPT. As for Kendra

L U S _ / T R O _ I _ A L
R A I N / _ O R E S T

…she’ll be seeing a LUSH TROPICAL RAIN FOREST on that caravan.com CENTRAL AMERICA TOUR.

SOLE DUD: D (Colin)

Scores after R2
Kendra: $9K cash & tour/Colin: $3,350 + + WC/Ashley: ZIP

Mystery Round: SAME NAME

First, the scoreless Ashley spins her way to T’s for $1,800 but then LaT. Second for Kendra are three R’s for $2,400, three E’s and O’s, but then the BANKRUPT near TD to give up $1,900; that’s her second of the game. Third in Colin’s favor are a $400 L, the last vowel of three A’s, and a FP P, then we’re looking at…

R O O T / _ E E R / &
P A R A _ E
_ L O A T

…he’s right w/ ROOT BEER & PARADE FLOAT for the house minimum.

SOLE LaT: Ashley

Scores after R3
Kendra: $9K cash & tour/Colin: $4,350 + WC/Ashley: BAD LUCK

$3K Tossup: THING

_ O C I A _
C A L E _ _ A R

Kendra sweeps the Tossups w/ SOCIAL CALENDAR.

Round 4: MOVIE QUOTE (w/ an ! at the end)

Her starters are a $300 M, two T’s for an x7 multiplier, and pairs of E’s and I’s, followed by two H’s for $600 more, two O’s to clean out the vowels, and a $300 F. The board so far…

I ‘ M / T H E / _ I _ _
O F / T H E / _ O _ _ _ !

…she doesn’t know the last word, so $2,250 might be going down the drain for her. Colin then calls up R and L singles at $300 apiece…

I ‘ M / T H E / _ I _ _
O F / T H E / _ O R L _ !

…he says the “Titanic” line of “I’M THE KING OF THE WORLD!” for a $400 bonus.

SOLE DQ: Kendra’s last-word blanking

Scores after R4
Kendra: $12K cash & tour/Colin: $5,350 + WC/Ashley: GOOSEEGG ALERT

Colin finally gives up that WC to the same normal BANKRUPT. Ashley’s second in line w/ a $300 S, an R to double up, but then a bad vowel in E and we’re going into Speed-Up Mode…

_ _ _ _
_ _ R _ _ _ _ _ _ S

…w/ an $1,800 Final Spin. Once Ashley finds a C at the beginning of the second word…

_ _ N _
C _ R N _ T _ _ N S

…she plucks some PINK CARNATIONS for her only $2,150 of the night.

SOLE DUD (before bell): E (Ashley)

Kendra: $12K cash & tour/Colin: $5,350/Ashley: $2,150

GT: $19,500
BANKRUPT TRASH (excluding cardboard): $6,100

$100K Bonus Round
Kendra gets the R envelope.

Category: THING
I know this already, because they last used this at the start of ’04 NFL Players Week and it was solved for $45K…

_ _ _ _ _ _ _
S _ _ N

DMPO doesn’t add anything, and she’s NOT even close w/ MEDICAL and DIGITAL SCAN. She doesn’t obey this HIGHWAY SIGN for the exact same amount.

MY EP. RATING: 4 out of 10

Why was Colin so conservative? … Wow, Dionne Warwick sung that song? I thought it was Elton John.

And what the heck is a SOCIAL CALENDAR.

  2. Andy Nguyen July 10, 2014 / 2:57 am

Yes, she made the song famous after Rod Stewart originally did that song. And Elton did contribute to the song, along w/ Stevie Wonder and Gladys Knight.

Also, look up the social calendar page on facebook and you'll see what it is.

Wow, my instinct was right. It is the Facebook page. Thanks, Andy. You're the best!
