Rick McDaniel: restaurant GM w/ three kids (Justin, Kelsey and Drew) from Simi Valley

Shawn’s two for two w/ BAIT & TACKLE SHOP.

FEATURED $5K SS: CreditCards.com

His opening consonants are an S for the WC and four T’s for $10K (he doesn’t use the WC despite Pat’s offer). Following his first buys of two O’s and E’s, he captures a TD H (again, he declines), two A’s, a C for the 1/2 CAR near $300 and an I to clean out the vowels. He then spins once more for a $1,600 pair of D’s…

T E A C H I _ _
T O D D _ E _ S
T O / T A _ _

…and solves TEACHING TODDLERS TO TALK for $14,100 (although it could’ve been $19,100 had he used the WC to call those L’s)!

Scores after R1
Shawn: $17,100 + 1/2 CAR + WC/Other men: $0 each

Mystery Round: BEFORE & AFTER

Rick’s first consonant of T is no good. Second, Walter calls up a $400 N, FPs and O, but then strikes out w/ S. Third, Shawn’s gonna regret using his WC, because he BANKRUPTS near TD to give up that thing plus his plate. Back to Rick who plugs in a $700 D, four E’s, two R’s for $700, and a FP A to clean out the vowel shop. But after a $300 C is M for mistake. Walter then lights up twin B’s and L’s ($800 and $900, respectively)….

B E L L _

…I doubt there’s a BEER BELLY DANCER anywhere in the world, but he’s won his first $3,800.

DUDS: T (Rick), S (Walter), M (Rick)

Scores after R2
Walter: $3,800/Shawn: $17,100/Rick: ZIP

Bonus Puzzle Flashback (1991): THING

L _ _ _ _ _ E

…but he still got LUGGAGE.

PP/Express Round: PHRASE

First for Walter are three N’s for $2,400, three E’s, but then the other normal BANKRUPT to lose the leftover $2,150 (not $1,900 as displayed on his screen). Second for Shawn are two L’s for $1,300, and the rest of this puzzle’s vowels (O, three I’s, U). But after the FP of two E’s is the LaT. Rick then calls up a $1K pair of H’s…

W H E N / W I L L
_ O U / _ E
_ H E _ _ I N _ / I N ?

…he asks “WHEN WILL YOU BE CHECKING IN?” and he’ll be doing so at the Anse Chastanet Resort in ST. LUCIA courtesy of Hotwire; he’s on the board w/ $11,299 cash & prizes.

SOLE LaT: Shawn

Scores after R3
Walter: $3,800/Shawn: $17,100/Rick:$11,299 cash & prizes

I’m CATCHING MY SECOND WIND, but Shawn blanks out.

_ A T C H I N G / M Y
S E C _ N _ / W I N _

Rick takes too much time, but he’s one letter off anyway w/ MATCHING MY SECOND WIND. Walter then capitalizes to go to $6,800.

Round 4: THING

First from Walter’s mouth are a $300 N, four E’s, but then a baddie of G. Second, Shawn gets his second BANKRUPT of the night from the same location Walter got in the last round. Third in Rick’s future are two T’s for a grand, three R’s for $1,500 more, but no more w/ M and we go into Speed-Up Mode…

E _ _ E _ _ E N T
T R _ _ _ / R E _ _ R _

…and the Final Spin is gonna be $1,600. Two L’s are put up by Walter

E _ _ E L L E N T

…he doesn’t have an EXCELLENT TRACK RECORD, but he’s $3,250 richer.

Andy, I need to send you some news … Molly is a member of the boards (just in case you didn't notice)!

Good game, and despite Shawn not using his WC, everyone leaves with 5 figure totals. And I'm wrong about this week being 1/5.
